ISLAMABAD: JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehaman has called on President Pervez Musharraf to step down immediately, saying supporting the 17th Amendment is a crime retaining it despite having a two thirds majority in Parliament is a much bigger crime. Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the constitutional package is required to replace the 17th Amendment and that the government should not delay it any further.

Talking to a private TV channel, he said merely adopting a resolution in the National Assembly is not enough for the restoration of the deposed judges. Such a resolution must be followed by proper legislation or constitutional amendments to provide it legal cover. Replying to a question, the JUI-F leader said that nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan must be released unconditionally.

He further demands that the government to give a categorical assurance to the nation that Dr. A. Q. Khan would be not be handed over to the United States. And as far as the President is concerned, Maulana Fazalur Rehman said his party wants him to step down immediately.-SANA
