Kaira hails from respected Gujjar family of Lala Musa
ISLAMABAD: Kamar Zaman Kaira who has recently joined the cabinet as Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas hails from a respected Gujjar family of Lala Musa in Gujrat district. Born on 5th January 1960 in Mohallah Kaira of Lala Musa he got his early education from his home town and did his Master degree from the University of Punjab.
Kaira was vocal student leader and remained President of Student Union of his college in Gujrat in 1970s. Due to his selfless services to the cause of humanity, he was elected Nazim of Union Council Lala Musa. In 2002 elections, he was elected Member of National Assembly and remained Member of Public Accounts Committee and Chairman Standing Committee on Ministry of States and Frontier Region (SAFRON).
Qamar Zaman Kaira visited India, Norway, Finland, France and UK as member of Pakistan delegations to attend the international conferences and seminars. In February 2008 general elections, he was elected Member of the National Assembly from NA-106 constituency on PPP ticket.
His father Ch Muhammad Zaman Kaira was elected MPA on PPP ticket from Gujrat in the 1977 general elections. His uncle Ch Muhammad Asghar Kaira was elected MPA in 1985 general elections held on non-party basis. Asghar Kaira was later elected to National Assembly on PPP ticket in 1988 and 1993.-SANA

Qamar Zaman Kaira is a great popular leader from kharian. I have met him number of time and he is very mature leader in PPP who has true political sense. I am proud of him as he represents Kharian. Kharian kee peechan… Qamar Zaman Qamar Zaman : )
