KARACHI: Former provincial minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq was acquitted by National Accountability Court on Monday in two separate NAB references regarding plots. National Accountability Court held that contention of defense counsel Shahadate Awan that there was no criminal intention on the part of the accused and he was entitled to acquittal carried sufficient weight.
Although the NRO is in operation now and various NAB cases against different political figures are being withdrawn under its provisions, the case against Pir Mazhar, who is also parliamentary leader of PPP Sindh Assembly, was not withdrawn, rather the court acquitted him under section 265-K of the code of criminal procedure for want of incriminating piece of evidence.-SANA
