Removal of judges illegal: Deposed CJP

ISLAMABAD: Deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has termed step of the removal of the judges and their detention as illegal and unconstitutional. He was speaking to supporters of lawyers, political workers and activists of civil society who turned up at his residence to celebrate release of all the detained judges on the order of newly elected Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.

After his release on Monday he said that order of November 3 was against the law and the constitution. He thanked the lawyers, members of civil society and the nation for their continued support for independence of judiciary and restoration of pre-November 3 judiciary.

“I have no words to pay thanks to your support,” he said. He said that destination was yet far away and they had to adopt such a course which would not create hurdles in achieving their goals. He said that he still support of the people.

Iftikhar Chaudhry said that he, with the support of entire nation, will continue to work for independence of judiciary and rule of law. Supreme Court Bar President Chaudhry Aitizaz Ahsan, Justice (Retd) Tariq Mahmood and family members of deposed Chief Justice were also present at the balcony of his house.-SANA
