Indian High Commissioner calls on Nawaz Sharif
LAHORE: Indian High Commissioner Satyabrata Pal called on PML (N) leader Nawaz Sharif Monday morning at his Raiwind residence and conveyed the warm regards and good wishes of the Indian leadership.The high commissioner spoke of his satisfaction at the prospect of the restoration of the civilian democratic government in Pakistan and his confidence that the two neighbors would be able to intensify the peace process.
Nawaz Sharif thanked the Indian high commissioner for the greetings conveyed from the Indian leaders and reiterated his desire to see the South Asian neighbours live in an atmosphere of peace and mutual cooperation.
In this context, he recalled the initiative he had taken to invite the former Indian prime minister Atal Behari Vajepai to Pakistan. It was in that meeting the historic Lahore Declaration was signed. This understanding envisaged a peaceful negotiated settlement of all differences between Pakistan and India including the issue of Kashmir. Nawaz Sharif also spoke of his vision of peace, stability and economic cooperation in changing the destiny of the people.-SANA
