ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Muhammad Shafiq, Head of Operations of a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) on the charges of embezzlement in funds provided by the donors for the rehabilitation of earthquake affectees.
According to details, a total of Rs 115 million was allocated for camp management to NGO, Basic Education and Employable Skills Training (BEST) for Azad Kashmir and Abbottabad sectors. An amount of Rs. 25 million was the expenditure under the administrative and management head. The ground verification was conducted on sampling basis for the remaining amount of Rs. 90 million. The sampling established 30% of embezzlement of total amount which comes to Rs 27 millions approximately.
The accused Muhammad Shafiq was produced before the Accountability Court for remand in NAB custody. Further investigations are in progress.It may be mentioned here that NAB has already arrested Akhtar Nawaz, Technical Coordinator and Syed Hammad Ahmad Gillani, Finance and Administration Assistant of the same NGO on similar charges.-SANA
