Opposition gets two-third majority: Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Quaid of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that the opposition parties had got two third majority in the National Assembly. He was addressing the joint meeting of the Pakistan People’s Party, PML N) and Awami National Party. PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and ANP President Asfandyar Wali also addressed the meeting.

Demanding the convening of the National Assembly session, Nawaz Sharif announced that PPP, PML (N) and ANP would make the government at centre. He said that they had support of 171 members. He also announced that supremacy of parliament, rule of constitution and law, end of military interference into politics and defeat of dictatorship was the common agenda for which every sacrifice would be offered.

He said that the three parties would cooperate with each other for safeguarding Pakistan’s solidarity, democracy and strengthening the institutions. He said people had rejected the dictatorship in the elections and now all eyes were on us. Nawaz Sharif said that the people had proved that they liked the democracy, therefore, it was the responsibility of the elected people not the disappoint them. He announced to fully support the PPP.

He said the three parties would work for real progress of the country and promotion of the democracy. He said a challenge of restoring real democracy was facing us and expressed confidence to achieve it. Addressing the meeting Asif Ali Zardari said that all the political forces were united to bring the country out of the crisis. He said the parliament would be run with the same spirit. He said that struggle for end to dictatorship and complete restoration of democracy would continue. He said that dream of Quaid-i-Azam and Allma Iqbal regarding democracy would be fulfilled.

Zardari said that Benazir Bhutto wanted democracy in the country and the best revenge of her death would be restoration of democracy. He said it was must to promote democracy and rule of constitution and law in the country. He said all parties present in this meeting would extend cooperation to each other for the sake of democracy.

In his speech, Asfandyar Wali said that there was little difference between expediency and being unfaithfulness. He said that expediency could be allowed but not the unfaithfulness.He said that all of us had to work together to achieve the goals set by our forefathers. He said that independence of judiciary, rule of law and supremacy of constitution was our goal.

He said that we should work for progress of the nation keeping aside our personal gains.He said that the people of the country had expressed what they wanted in the February 18 polls. Present in the meeting were 171 members-elect of the National Assembly. Meanwhile seven independent members of the National Assembly elected from Tribal Areas announced to join PPP in a meeting with Asif Ali Zardari.-SANA
