ISLAMABAD: Central General Secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party Jahangir Badar has said that the Scotland Yard team gave findings in a hurry and did not go through the facts completely. “The team has mostly depended on the stand of Interior Ministry. PPP has never depended on the SLY team. The team did not gave importance to the principle of the investigation under criminal code that it should be to the satisfaction of aggrieved party,” he said while participating in a TV programme.
Keeping in view the prevailing circumstances, we demanded that the investigations of the incident may be conducted by the international inquiry commission under the aegis of the United Nations, he said. “We demanded of the UN to form Benazir International Investigation Commission so that the evidence we have, may be presented before that commission.”
The people of Punjab overwhelming responded to the electioneering of PPP in Rawalpindi on the day when Benazir Bhutto Sahiba was assassinated, he said and added that the murder was aimed at stopping democratic process in the country.
“The supporters of PPP are very excited. The people are more actively participating in the electioneering of PPP after the death of Benazir Bhutto. As for the elections of 2008, if free and fair elections are held, the 70’s like situation will emerge and those contest the elections on the bases of government machinery will not win these elections.”
He said that the party supporters and sympathizers were very dynamic. “I am sure if the elections are held free and fair, PPP will get more than two-third seats of the National Assembly.” Only 30 % votes have been polled in the past, he observed, saying this time, people will come at the polling stations to poll their votes. But, at the same time, it is the duty of Election Commission of Pakistan to assure the people that the results will come according to their polled votes. He said the charter of democracy is part of PPP’s manifesto and we termed it as our Magna Carta.-SANA
