ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar A Memon has said that Pakistan is sovereign country and the foreign governments must follow the diplomatic norms while making comments on its internal affairs. While commenting on remarks by American Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher about what he called certain irregularities in the election procedures of Pakistan, the Minister said neither government nor people of Pakistan would like such remarks.

Election rules and procedures of Pakistan are quite elaborate and transparent and these are also available on the web, Memon told Radio Pakistan in an interview. In case any one has any misunderstanding, he is welcome as an election observer to see for himself that how election process is being conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner, he added.

Regarding suspension of Pakistan’s membership in the Commonwealth and its restoration, the Minister said it is for Pakistan to decide about the utility or otherwise of the membership. He reminded that Pakistan is not a colony but a sovereign country to take its own decisions.-SANA
