GILGIT: The road-link of Northern Areas with the rest of the country has been cut off due to land-sliding caused by rain and snowfalls. According to reports, the Karakuram Highway between Rawalpindi and Gilgit has been suspended since Tuesday night at Gijal and Sarkari towns of Kohistan District. Similarly, Gilgit-Baltistan road has been closed at Thangus near Dasu.

Murree road between Changla Gali and Nathia Gali, Thandyani-Pattan Khurd road and other link roads in Galliyat have also been closed due to heavy snow fall and land sliding while Muzaffarabad-Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad-Chikothi and Muzaffarabad-Chikar Sudhan Gali roads have been closed due to snowfall, rains and land-sliding. However, Muzaffarabad-Rawalpindi via Kuhala and Muzaffarabad-Abottabad roads are open for traffic.

The plain areas of the NWFP are receiving rain and snowfall over the hills since last Friday, resulting in the close of Chitral-Booni, Chitral-Kalash and Chitral-Ziarat roads. Traffic on the alternative route via Kunar from Chitral to Peshawar is also closed. In Balochistan, Quetta-Chaman Highway has also been closed for traffic. Moreover in Swat, Bahrain-Kalam road, Shangla top, Besham-Shangla and Puran roads have been closed due to heavy snowfall.-SANA
