ISLAMABAD: As there are reports of acute shortage of wheat flour (atta) across the country, provincial governments of all the four provinces Friday claimed that they have taken numerous steps to ensure supply of flour to the people at fixed prices.The Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Ejaz Nisar said that there is no dearth of wheat in the province and concrete measures are being taken to ensure supply of flour to the people.
The NWFP Chief Minister Shams ul Mulak said that fair price shops have been set up to ensure supply of “atta” in the province. He said the province total requirement of wheat is 34 lac tonne, of which it receives 22 lac tonne from Punjab. He said transportation of wheat to Afghanistan is a major factor of flour shortage in the province. The Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Abdul Qadir Halepoto said that the provincial government is utilizing all resources to overcome the shortage of flour. He said the federal government is releasing additional quota of wheat to improve the supply situation. He said strict action has been taken against hoarders and the situation will improve within the next three to four days.
Authorities in Balochistan said that supply of flour is improving in the province including Quetta. On the directions of the caretaker Chief Minister, effective steps have been taken to ensure supply of flour at fixed rates. In Quetta, 130 fair price shops have been established to ensure flour supply at fixed rates. The District administration is also actively monitoring the supply situation. In other parts of the province, steps have been taken to ensure smooth supply of “atta” to the people.-SANA
