mahngai.JPG ISLAMABAD: A country-wide protest was observed Friday on the call of All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) against the price hike, wheat crisis and unannounced load shedding. Protest demonstrations were held across the country including the capital city Islamabad against atta scarcity and prolonged and unannounced load shedding which according to the protestors has not only affected the country’s industrial sector but has made the masses life miserable.

Protestors complained that shortage of flour continues in the country as 20 kilogram bag of atta is no longer available in the retail shops and local markets. They said unpacked atta is being sold at Rs 25 to Rs 30 per kilogram. In some of the shops where 20 kilogram bag is available, it is being sold at a rate as high as Rs 350, they said. Protestors chanted slogans against the government for the price hike in the daily use commodities and demanded the government to resign for making the citizens’ lives miserable.

The protestors expressed strong reaction to the situation, and said though flour crisis had continued to persist from the last several months, the government has failed to overcome the problem. Although flour mills are getting full supply quota of wheat, they are grinding only a portion of the corps that cause shortage of flour and the poor people are compelled to buy atta on unbelievable high prices, they added.

The protestors demanded the government to resign as it failed to supply commodities of basic necessity to the masses. In the capital city, a protest demonstration was held outside Islamabad Press Club. Speaking on the occasion, the APDM leaders said that government has not only failed in improving the law and order situation, it has also failed to prove commodities of daily use to the general public. They accused the government of making people’s lives a hell due to increase price hike, atta crisis and unannounced load shedding.

They said that the country was facing the flour crisis every year and no measures have been taken on the part of government. APDM leader Laiqat Baloch while addressing the protestors said that the government’s claims of making the country economically stable was noting but bunch of lies. The government, he said, can not hide its failure by tall claims of economic boom in the country. He said that people are living miserable life while government expenses were sky rocketing day by day. Government machinery has failed in all fronts, he said, and demanded the government to step down immediately by confessing to its failure.
