ISLAMABAD: JUI (F) Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman Tuesday called on PPP leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim and offered condolences over the tragic death of his party Chairperson and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.Fazl was accompanied by Senator Talha Mehmood, Senator Azam Khan Swati and JUI (F) central leader Maulana Hadyatullah Shah. Besides offering condolences over Bhutto’s death, the one hour long meeting also reviewed on host of issues including the January 8 elections.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Amin Fahim said that PPP stick to its demand of holding the upcoming polls as per schedule. He said that postponing the elections due to law and order situation is making no sense and added that there is no guarantee that atmosphere would be conducive if the elections were held in the later dates.
He said that the PPP’s decision is final that elections should be held as per schedule on January 8. Replying a question, Fahim said that his party was waiting for the government response to its demand for probing the Liaquat Bagh tragedy by foreign experts.
Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on the occasion paid homage to the PPP slain Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and termed her sudden death a great tragedy for the entire nation. He said that Benazir Bhutto was a brave and great leader and her service for the country would always be remembered. The country, he said, was already going through crisis and this untimely death of her has further shocked the nation.
He said that he spoke to Asid Zardari on phone to condole the Ms Bhutto’s death and their feelings about this great tragedy were the same. Commenting on the upcoming polls, the JUI (F) Chief said that it make no difference to its party if the elections are being held on time and added that JUI is ready for the January 8 elections. However, country’s stability and interests have become top priority and above party interests, he added.He said that most of the election commission’s offices have been burnt across the country and we have to consider country’s stability first.-SANA
