PPPP will contest in General Election: Zardari
NAUDERO: The party of slain Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto has decided to take part in parliamentary elections on January 8, and appealed Mian Nawaz Sharif Former Prime Minister(N) not to bycott Parlimantary Election. “Today’s general would like to run (from the election),” in a reference to President Musharraf. “We would not like to give him that chance.” said Asif Zardari in press conference. PPPP leadership and party’s central executive committee has endorsed his statement of participating in forthcoming Election.
Election Commission of Pakistan is supposed to hold an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss the situation, whether to hold Elections in time or delay. All activities pertaining to pre-poll arrangements, including printing of ballot papers and logistics as well as training of polling personnel, have been adversely affected,” the commission said on Saturday.
The security situation is denoted “not conducive” for holding the elections. It is important to note law and order situation in country is very bad and at least 38 people killed in unrest since Bhutto’s assassination on Thursday and several parties have threatened to boycott the poll.
