ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad made it clear that it was responsibility of federal Interior Ministry and provincial governments to create peaceful atmosphere and maintain law and order situation for the upcoming general elections, and added that the Election Commission has no obligation in this regard.
In an interview he said that the federal as well as provincial governments would have certainly taken steps to maintain law and order situation during elections. He further said that federal and provincial authorities have been told about sensitive polling stations and they will make arrangements to maintain law and order. He said that all ballot boxes had been shipped to all the district headquarters.
He said that the Election Commission has made arrangements to hold elections in a free, fair and transparent manner. He informed that 2252 candidates are contesting elections for 272 National Assembly seats while 5083 candidates are in the field for 577 provincial assemblies’ seats. He said printing of ballot papers would be completed till January 5, and there is no chance of making of fake ballot papers as these are printed on special paper with a special bar code.
Dilshad said that transparent ballot boxes had been provided at all polling stations and more than 81 million registered voters will be eligible to cast their votes. He said that 98 percent of polling stations would be set up at official buildings including schools, colleges and district offices. In case of non availability of official buildings, polling stations would be set up at other places, he added.-SANA
