ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) Deputy Secretary General and Deputy Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Liaquat Baloch has defended his party decision to boycott the Jan 8 general elections and asked other opposition leaders to review their decision of taking part in the polls.
Speaking at a PTV programme here, he said all candidates of Jamaat-e-Islami have withdrawn their nomination papers and a convention of all such candidates will be held in Islamabad.

He said the decision to boycott the elections was taken at meetings of the consultative and executive councils of the party and the decision was taken against the imposition of emergency in the country on Nov 3 by a military dictator. To a question about PML (N) and PPP participation in the general elections Baluch said it was decision of these parties but his party will appeal to the opposition leaders to review their decision of contesting the polls.-SANA
