SRINAGAR: Advocate Mir Shafqat Hussian, a prominent lawyer was awarded for rendering best legal services by Jammu Kashmir High Court Bar Association. The renowned lawyer has the distinction of exonerating hundreds of political detainees from the clutches of different ‘dreaded’ laws. At a seminar held recently, the eminent lawyer was awarded first Shaheed Jalil Andrabi award by the bar President Nazir Ahmad Ronga.
Mir Shafqat, started his professional legal career in 1991. He immediately proved his mettle when he pleaded the case in which four youth from Dalgate were picked by the paramilitary troopers during a crackdown. The four arrested youth after arrest got disappeared. The lawyer was able to get the attention of the honourable high court which directed the concerned police station to investigate the matter and arrest the accused para troopers. According to his senior colleagues, Mir Shafqat, in a short span of time has carved out a niche for himself.-SANA
