Bhutto meets Gul, urges for fair elections to ease tension

ISLAMABAD: A smooth transition from dictatorship to democracy is essential through a fair and transparent election, otherwise the nation would be remained mired in tension, said PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto in a meeting with the Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Monday. Bhutto met with Abdullah Gul and exchanged views on matters of bilateral and mutual interests. Addressing the media after the meeting, the PPP Chairperson termed her meeting with Gul as useful. She said that they discussed all issues of bilateral interests including power transition in Turkey and the up-coming elections in Pakistan.

Bhutto said that she appraised the Turkish President about her decision to contest the upcoming polls as it would help in strengthening the democratic process in Pakistan. PPP sources said that both the leaders recalled the fraternal bond that existed between Turkey and Pakistan. They hoped that the relationship would be further strengthened as a result of the President’s visit.

President Gul reiterated the importance of stability in region and the importance of the role of Pakistan in this regard. He conveyed to the Chairperson the happiness of the Turkish peoples on her return to Pakistan and her participation in the political process of the country.-SANA
