PESHAWAR: Former Prime Minister and PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto has reiterated her willingness to contest the forthcoming general elections and urged the moderate forces to join hands for restoration of genuine democracy in the country. Addressing a news conference here on Sunday, Benazir Bhutto asked the party workers and masses to come forward and cast their votes for moderate forces to pull out the country from political turmoil.
She said that people should elect honest and democratic forces and reject the extremist elements, for larger interest of the country. Benazir Bhutto said that she came back to the country for restoration of undiluted democracy and providing protection to masses. She said that every body should be allowed to participate in elections because if there is democracy there will be rule of law. She said that PPP desires that all democratic forces should work together with a sole objective of strengthening of democracy and for socio economic uplift of the poor.
To a question about recent suicide attacks in the country especially in NWFP and FATA, she said that her party after coming into power will establish peace with the help of people as if there is peace there will be development and prosperity. The PPP Chairperson demanded suspension of nazims till process of completion of elections, cancellation of large scale appointments and formation of an independent Election Commission. She claimed that she is still waiting for voter list of her constituency while voter list has also not been issued on the relevant website. She urged the Chief Election Commissioner to take urgent notice of the matter.
Benazir Bhutto also demanded for immediate release of all the political detainees in the country. Benazir categorically denied that her party is working on US agenda, saying that prosperous and stable Pakistan and restoration of undiluted democracy is the PPP’s agenda which will continue. She said that PPP would make all out efforts to eliminate poverty, price hike, unemployment and improvement of socio economic condition of poor after winning the up-coming polls.
Earlier talking to newsmen in Charsada, she said that All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) has contacted her for the forthcoming general elections and a meeting will be held soon. She however said that boycott will create hurdles in strengthening of democracy in the country. She visited Wali Bagh and condoled the death of ANP Rahbar Late Abdul Wali Khan with his family members.-SANA
