Sixteen security officials have been killed and 14 injured when miscreants attacked a convoy of security forces in Madakhel near Pak-Afghan border in North Waziristan tribal region on Wednesday. Security has been on high alert in Pakistan due to the current wave of suicidal attacks and militant activities continued in country one last one week.

Director General Inter Services Public Relation Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad has confirmed the news and told that 16 security men were martyred and 14 injured when local Taliban attacked convoy of security forces in Miran Shah area of North Waziristan region, who were later shifted to hospital.
He disclosed that several miscreants were also killed in retaliatory action however number is yet not confirmed. Indigenous Taliban has taken the responsibility for attacks on the convoy of security forces; spokesman of Taliban Abdulhai Ghazi has informed that militant activities will continued in future also.

Interior ministry has informed concerned authorities about the arrival of seven indigenous Taliban including Maulvi Ghanam zar to Peshawar and in other parts of country for continuation of militant activities. Reports tell these militants have come from Datakhail. It is reported that Ghanam Zar group is known to attack on the law enforcement agencies in past,

Details showed that rockets were also fired by some unknown persons at the camp of security forces here at the headquarters of North Waziristan; however, no casualty has been reported in this incident. DG-ISPR Maj Gen Waheed Arshad has confirmed this attack on security camp at headquarters.

It is pertinent to mention that on Tuesday night some unidentified persons had blasted two check posts of Khasadar Force by planting explosive device, while three security men and one passerby had reportedly died in a suicide attack on Mir Ali check post.

In another incident, a remote-controlled bomb exploded close to a security forces convoy near Miran Shah. The explosion hit the convoy at Chashma Bridge, which was traveling to Bannu from Miranshah. Another reports says this was hit with explosive mine. A private car ahead of the convoy went down the bridge after the blast. At least 6 civilians reportedly wounded in the attack and transferred to hospital. Security forces have cordoned off the area and investigating into the incident.

This attack has confirmed the US intelligence agencies report that Al-Qaeda is re-organizing in tribal areas of Pakistan particularly in North Waziristan; however Pakistan termed the US report as unsubstantiated in which the intelligence alleging that Osama Bin Laden’s al Qaeda network has regrouped in the North West parts of the country contained “some unsubstantiated assertions” and foreign office spokesperson Ms. Tsneem Aslam has asked for evidence to back up Washington’s claims.

It is pertinent to mention that on basis of US intelligence agencies reports Assistant secretary of States Richard Boucher has commented on the current situation in tribal areas that some military action was inevitable to curtail these elements that were responsible for militancy. He expressed that Bush administration was decided to support Musharraf’s move to combat terrorism in tribal areas of Pakistan, further he told that Bush administration was interested in providing $300-350 millions for training and equipments to Frontier Corps, including night-vision devices and scanning body amours.
