Rallies, Rallies, Rallies…. Three different shows were staged by different parties to show the political strength with them in country like Pakistan. The day ends with lots of historical moments including the 30 causalities and hundreds injured in Karachi hospitals as result of exchange of firing between two groups, Return of Chief Justice, Mr. Iftikhar Muhammad Ch. to Islamabad from Karachi Airport without addressing to Sindh High Court Bar, unjust exile of layers who came to support Chief Justice including his defense lawyer Mr. Aitazaz Ahsan, violence and bloodshed, hostility, attacks on the AAJ TV building, deserted roads of Karachi metropolitan that is the epicenter of commercial activities in Pakistan, No security/law enforcement agencies were there to help them out for several hours, Islamabad Rally where government servant were present to make this show successful, whole traffic and transport system was stuck all over the Punjab and Sindh, people were taken to Islamabad on 85 rupees per head and offered a lunch boxes.
These all situations have left the question marks on faces of international community. Even conscious Pakistanis within and outside the country having nationalism are in state of bewilderment. Many questions have been raised including what is going on in Pakistan? Where are we heading towards? Whom interests are being served? Is it power politics? Or politics is a power game in Pakistan? Is a military dictator in position to assert democracy and hold show to support his strength? Which elements were involved in violence noticed in Karachi? Is our media free to speak out about the injustice or revealing truth in front of masses to make them aware of the truth? Is this country is safe and sound to live in? Who is manipulating this situation? Who would be the end profiteer of this situation? Last but not the least; are we all sincere and loyal to our country?
Rallies which were staged today, among them one was for the solidarity of Pakistan held in Islamabad by the Government machinery and its allies. Sources report that whole Government machinery was involved to make this rally triumphant in favor of ruling Muslim League Quiad League. No transport was available whole day to the passengers who travel to earn bread and butter for their families. Further all the District Nazimeen(Mayors) were assigned targets to bring certain number of buses and people on wages from all the province. Gen. Pervaiz Musharaf, Mr. Shaukat Aziz, Mr. Pervaiz Elahi, Mr. Shujaat Hussain, Sh. Rasheed addressed to the masses and stated as their Government has the most popular one in history of Pakistan. Each of them brazenly claimed to bring prosperity to Pakistan under the prudent leadership of Gen. Pervaiz Musharraf and Mr. Shuakat Aziz. Gen. Pervaiz Musharraf frivolously commented on the Chief Justice address that he was reprimanded for going to Karachi due to security concerns on May 12, 2007. Seems he wants to caution him FACE THE MUSIC NOW. What is the purpose of holding a public meeting on part of ruling and its coalition parties, just ti indicate that their days are numbered.
People of Pakistan showed their resentment vehemently against the injustice waged by Government during Chief Justice’s visit to Lahore. Government was alarmed with his popularity and Government’s unpopularity. Hence MQM, coalition party with Government staged another show against the visit of Chief Justice of Pakistan to Karachi. Everyone is aware of the strength, MQM has in Karachi. Alliance for restoration of Democracy in Pakistan ARD general secretary Mr. Iqbal zafar Jhgra appealed MQM to put off its Rally to avoid any possible clash between political parties and maintain peace in city. However on the pretext of politicizing the judiciary issue, MQM stipulated the bloodshed with visit of Chief Justice.
Another shameful and condemnable act was attack on AAG TV building, during last six years journalists have been attacked in Pakistan that has no precedent. Though Musharraf government has consistently claimed that the media in Pakistan enjoys “unprecedented” freedom, this remains limited to publications and television channels that support his government and him personally.
www.bbc.co.uk tells that only AAJ Channel did not broadcast Altaf Bahi’s live address on telephone and crew was pressurized to on-air his speech. Alost 450 people remained in building for six hours, horror-struck and horrified. They requested to high ups on-air to send some help to get them released but no law enforcement agnacy could help them so. Mr. Talat Hussian director Currant affairs AAJ TV said this was an attempt to destabilize Karachi city. An impression coming out that Government parties want to eat the cake and have it by curbing and attacking news channels to keep the masses ignorant of the facts and create divisiveness in provinces.
No statement has been observed by PML-N and PPPP exiled leaders on the situation. While opposition parties like MMA, Tahreek-e-Insaf and many other remained confused, however no sincere and loyal person to country would appreciate this situation. Every sensitive Pakistani would be shedding blood tears on this turn of history, while rulers have staked the national interest for personal causes.
What image we are portraying in international community of Pakistan, an Enlighten Pakistan where everyone has its own interest, lust to be in power. Independent monitoring humanitarian groups keeps an eye over all these things which are being done in Pakistan. Few days back UN has stopped its humanitarian activities being continued in Pakistan due to such reasons. And we must expect this from other groups and agencies to do the same.
